UPDATE: Added the link to download my compiled version of the ComicBook Chrome

This post, was written with Chrome at first. However, things just kept showing Error when I want to Save/Publish the post. Thus, it was posted from Safari. Thank you.

Yesterday night (Malaysia), I read about this new browser in the arena called Chrome. After having reading through its comicbook, I finally want to download and have a test on this browser. The browser was named “Chrome”.

Then, I started to google for it’s mainpage, as I want to download the installer for my Mac. Unfortunately, they still didn’t support for Mac / Linux, but they do have Windows version. Having cursing them (a bit), I’ve thought of my Parallels. So, there I go, run my Windows XP on my Parallels, and download this browser. The installation was a snap  Weehooo~ Then, immediately, I run the Chrome.

First thing first, I pointed the URL to my brother’s website, munzirfauzi.com, as it was geared with Mootools. As I expected, the page load very fast (even the site is on a very lousy server), but, when it comes to the Animation Effect that I coded into the page, it moved slower than Safari, or should I say, other Senior Browser. The same thing happened to my Blog’s navigation. But, this time, it uses JQuery. So, as a short conclusion, I might be affected by Virtual Environment, or these two JavaScript Framework was not design for V8 (JavaScript Engine used by Chrome, which is a new engine). This behavior affected Facebook, Yahoo! Mail too.

Next, the font rendering effect. I’m not sure why, but I think it is because, Chrome can’t detect my site / Wordpress document type very well, thus affecting the rendering of fonts on my page. It is look the same when I browse using IE. So, are they planting some IEs inside here? Durh. Please don’t. :!: Here is the screenshot of the blog on Chrome:

Thus, finally I would like to do some early conclusion or review about Chrome:

  1. It is a very clean browser
  2. Neat and Fast (Very fast indeed)
  3. Simple (nice zen of simplicity here, Kudos!)
  4. A very good implementation of New Concept : Each tab, own process
  5. Compatible with Flash Plugin (this is important)
  6. Mootools + JQuery performance is not good
  7. Its FREE , and Open Source
  8. Jagged font (just like IE family)
  9. A nice BETA product
  10. A new standard for future development.

Anyhoo, again, I would like to express that THIS TEST was run on Parallels, a VIRTUAL WINDOWS. Therefore, processing power might not as native as those who run on Native Windows. Here are the links that might be useful for you:

  • Download Chrome at HERE
  • The comic book, is HERE
  • and the compiled version by me, HERE

Again, this is BETA, and have a nice day guys! And, to Google Chrome Team. Please fix the bugs as soon as possible, as people are turning to you right now. Good luck guys! For further reading about Chrome features, visits http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/features.html. :halo:
